Out of State Contractors Doing Business In Oregon

For those of you who are out of state wishing to do business in Oregon we offer a service to assist you in getting your license quicker.  We will help you with the education process, filing out your forms, letting you know what you need, be your registered agent (for yearly fee of $100.00) and then ‘walk' your license through Oregon's process (for a fee of $150.00 ).

As of January 1, 2002 all out of state contractors will have to go through the 16 hour approved education plus pass the state exam.

If you have decided to become licensed in the State of Oregon these are the steps to be taken:

Complete a 16hour education program.

When finished with the education, call Prometeric and schedule your state exam.  You can check to see if Prometeric has a testing agency in your state by going to: Prometeric

If you are a Corp., LLC and/or LLP fill out the form that reads: Application for Authority to Transact Business–Business/Professional, CR121.  It will cost you $50.00 plus an additional $5.00 if you want a confirmation copy.  Located on the Sec. of State web page
Click on Forms & Fees, click on Business Registry locate CR121

You will also need to file for you BIN through Oregon Business Identification Number:  www.dor.state.or.us/withhold/211-055.pdf  or  call the Oregon Department of Revenue at 503-378-4988 (please see page 1-45 in your reference manual)

For those who are filing as a Sole Proprietorship but using an assumed name fill out form reading: Assumed Business Name–New Registration along with the Application for Authority to Transact Business.  This requires a fee of $50.00 sent to the Secretary of the State a piece plus a $5.00 charge if you want a confirmation copy.

NOTE:  These two processes may be done while you are waiting for your education packet or done while you are studying your course.

You will need Bonding and Insurance for the work you will be doing here in Oregon.  Check with your insurance company and make sure they are certified to do business here in Oregon.  If your insurance company is unsure have them contact CCB at:  503-378-4621 and ask for Licensing. Your bond must be a Surety Bond with the State of Oregon Construction Contractors Board on the heading.  Oregon does not accept period bonds.   Remember what ever name you put on your application it must state word for word, letter for letter on your insurance certificate and Surety Bond.  For example:  ABC Roofing, Incorporated is what is on your application.
ABC Roofing, Inc. is how your insurance company typed your name on the certificate. You will be denied.   If you typed out Incorporated than the insurance company must also typed out Incorporated.

When all this is done; your application is complete and your education is finished you can mail your application directly to CCB, which will take a two to four weeks for processing.  However, if you wish you may mail it to us and we will ‘walk' it through the State and have it processed quicker for an additional fee.
